Saturday, August 22, 2026 – 10am & 1pm
A Cosmopolitan Event at Silver Reef

Utah has had a well known influence in the development of the movie industry, from the silent era to the multimillion-dollar blockbusters of today. This presentation will include film clips and photos illustrating Utah’s role in the film industry, and provide insights from Utah’s own Phil Tuckett, a 53-year veteran in film production.
About the Presenter
Phil Tuckett had a 38-year career as a producer, director, writer, editor, and cinematographer with NFL Films, and developed a distinctive style of documentary filmmaking, leading to 30 individual Emmy Awards. Tuckett produced critically acclaimed sports specials, as well as the Emmy Award-winning Blood From A Stone, a docu-movie for The History Channel. In 2008, Tuckett was offered a position at Dixie State College in St. George, Utah, where he had attended as a student in 1964. During his 16 years teaching at Dixie State he created the Digital Film Degree Program where he produced seven feature-length documentaries with his students about the American Southwest, collectively called The High Desert Chronicles. Tuckett also founded and, for 12 years, directed the acclaimed DocUtah International Film Festival.
