DESCRIPTION:FREE!-Please Register:\nhttp://tinyurl.com/GrandmothersStory \nPresented by Arts to Zion and Washington County Historical Society and Utah Tech University (formerly Dixie State) and Silver Reef Museum and Utah Humanities at Arts to Zion at Gallery 35\, Saint George UT \nHer grandmother’s teachings of cultural traditions and customs\, education\, self-reliance\, service\, kindness\, and love are as important in today’s world as they were back then. She was introduced to the English language at the age of six when she started school at the Bureau of Indian Affairs boarding school in New Mexico. During her presentation\, she will share some of her first encounters with this new world. As a child\, she also learned the traditional dances as her grandfather beat the drum and sang the songs. She will share with you one of those dances. Lucille has been a member of the Utah Humanities presenters for many years and is a recipient of the Utah Humanities Council Road Scholar 2005 Merit Award. Her presentations have been under these titles: “My Grandmother’s Teachings”\, “The Changing Navajo”\, and “The Navajo Way: Customs and Traditions\, Past and Present”. She has presented to audiences of all sizes in public schools and universities\, as well as private and government organizations throughout the state of Utah and other states. Lucille is a professional translator of her Native Navajo language. She continues to work in translating materials for various institutions. She has written many short stories of which the most popular one is titled\, “The Eagle Can Fly”. It is a fable about an eaglet who discovers the power of his heritage and begins to exercise that power. She’s married to Calvin Hunt of Santa Clara\, Utah\, where they reside. She loves that on the day she married\, 37 years ago\, she became a wife\, a mother\, and a grandmother. She is now a great-grandmother.
